Hello. This is Heart Health Tuesdays! Today, we’ll talk about homeopathy and blood pressure. Homeopathy is a therapeutic science based on the theory that substances that are able to cause certain symptoms in a healthy person can heal those same symptoms in a sick person. The goals of homeopathy are to diagnose and identify other possible causes such as food allergies, heavy metal toxicity, insulin resistance, and nutritional deficiencies.
Homeopathy & blood pressure treatment is often prescribed through a homeopathic practitioner. This is a professional who has received special training and education in the use of homeopathic techniques and substances to effect a holistic positive change in a person’s health.
Goals of Treatment For Homeopathy and Blood Pressure
The goals of treatment for homeopathy & blood pressure is to decrease the need for little or no medication by making lifestyle changes in the person’s life by way of exercise, weight loss, nutritional support and supplements that replace nutritional deficiencies and support general health. All of these things combined are generally able to lower blood pressure and give your body the support it needs to perform at optimal levels.
The use of homeopathy & blood pressure treatments are aimed at a more natural approach to treatment instead of using standard Western medicine. In the past 200 years over 50% of the medications brought onto the market for general public use have been recalled after negative side effects overwhelmed whatever positive effects the drugs were supposed to have.
Homeopathic practitioners have found that using natural changes in their patient’s lifestyle, as well support the general health of the patient, will often give the patient’s body the provisions it needs to attain and maintain health.
Homeopathic physicians also will teach their patients the true art of relaxation, which may include the use of meditation, deep breathing, hypnosis or yoga. Research has found that the use of these homeopathic techniques help patients to control their blood pressure with less medication than would otherwise be used.
Talk To Your Regular Doctor
If you chose to use homeopathic substances, you must inform your regular doctor and consult your pharmacist. These substances, although natural, are also drugs. Even most of traditional medicine began as natural substances but were remanufactured in the lab to cut costs and increase production. For instance, digoxin a commonly used heart medication has its roots in Foxglove, a common garden flower.
Consulting and informing your doctor will give him/her the opportunity to use medications that won’t interact or interfere with the substances you plan to use with the homeopathic physician. However, as knowledgeable as your doctor is, his/her first education and training is in the art of diagnosis and treatment. On the other hand, pharmacists spend years learning about how drugs work in your body and how they interact in your body. This knowledge makes them an invaluable asset in the continued treatment, control and support of your blood pressure and health.

I’m excited to talk about this topic today because not only do I truly believe that you have the power to reverse heart disease and lower high blood pressure to improve your health, but the science also agrees! You can adopt healthy lifestyle practices that improve your health and enrich your life, which can in turn improve the lives of those close to you. You have the power to break the cycle of these chronic diseases so that you can leave a legacy of health to your loved ones.
As you may already know, I use lifestyle medicine as the first line of treatment, before medications, to treat lifestyle-related chronic diseases. Lifestyle-related chronic diseases include diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and some cancers, just to name a few. Lifestyle practices, such as eating a whole-food plant-based diet and regular physical activity, can help you improve blood pressure and reverse heart disease. In certain cases, these approaches may even outperform pharmaceutical therapy. But I always tell my patients that conventional medications may be appropriate at this time to prevent catastrophic illness, but over time, you can work to make the necessary lifestyle changes to possibly reduce and/or eliminate medications. Please remember to always consult your physician for your particular needs and circumstances prior to making any decisions whatsoever.
Tools to Improve Heart Health
Blood Pressure Monitoring
Since weight management is very important in blood pressure control, I recommend that you be mindful of your weight and its fluctuations, and that you monitor your weight AT LEAST on a weekly basis. I recommend a scale that includes a body composition monitor.
Remember, healthy lifestyle behaviors–like eating a whole-foods plant-based diet that is low in sodium, being physically active, and stress management are the best ways to prevent and control high blood pressure. Please talk with your doctor about any complementary health approaches, including supplements, you use.
